On 24 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed and had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Hayashi Teiji, Ambassador for Mekong Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Both sides discussed cooperation between Thailand and Japan at the Mekong subregional level, reiterating the importance of the Mekong - Japan cooperation framework in advancing sustainable development in the region. The Japanese side expressed its readiness to cooperate closely with Thailand and other countries in the subregion in combating transnational crime, particularly online scams.

They also exchanged views on the Thai - Cambodian border situation. The Vice Foreign Minister clarified the facts and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the area. He underscored that Thailand’s actions have been carried out in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and expressed hope that the existing bilateral mechanisms would be utilized to resolve the issue constructively.
