On 21 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the opening of the newly renovated Ground Floor of the Secretariat Building of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok.

Secretary Gongsakdi underscored the importance of modernizing ESCAP’s facilities and infrastructure, particularly in light of the recent earthquake on 28 March 2025, and reaffirmed Thailand’s steadfast support for the United Nations as a pillar of the global multilateral system. The renovation of the G Floor of the ESCAP Secretariat Building was taken to modernize the space, ensure earthquake resilience, and improve functionality in response to evolving operational needs. Key features of the area include the Asia-Pacific Lounge, which was financially supported by the Royal Thai Government, as well as a Bilateral Meeting Room and a Technology Hub for virtual conferencing, which was financially sponsored by the Governments of China and Kazakhstan, respectively.

The Asia-Pacific Lounge is accessible to UN personnel and all participants attending meetings or events at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), offering a welcoming and collaborative environment to foster dialogue and partnership.
