On 3 January 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, chaired a preparatory meeting on Thailand’s Membership in the Human Rights Council 2025 - 2027. The meeting was attended by the Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The meeting discussed recent developments on human rights issues at the United Nations and exchanged views on Thailand’s priorities and initiatives as an incoming member of the Human Rights Council, including Thailand’s long-standing commitment on issues such as children’s rights, women’s rights, rights of vulnerable groups, rights to health, justice administration, business and human rights and technical cooperation. The meeting also discussed on Thailand’s possible role and contribution on new and emerging issues affecting human rights such as climate change, pandemic and digital technology, as well as ways on enhancing the efficiency of the Council.
