Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, led the Thai delegation to Qatar from 2 – 3 September 2024 to discuss the preparation for the 3rd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit in Doha, Qatar, and the Thailand’s ACD Chairmanship in 2025.

During the two-day visit, the Thai delegation met with H.E. Mr. Mubarak bin Ajlan Al Kuwari, Executive Director of the Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences (PCOC) and Ms. Al-Johara Yousef Fakhro, Acting Director of Asian Affairs Department. They discussed about the theme of this year’s ACD summit: “Sports Diplomacy” particularly the role of sports in empowering people, promoting cooperation and enhancing peace and security in the region. The two sides also deliberated on future areas of cooperation and Thailand’s plan for the ACD during its Chairmanship in 2025.

The ACD, inaugurated in 2002 by Thailand, currently consists of 35 Member States and is a pan-Asia cooperation and policy dialogue forum aimed at promoting understanding, mutual trust, and mutual interest among Asian countries, as well as finding common solutions to global challenges.
