On 4 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy organised a reception on the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Thailand’s Father’s Day at the Okura Tokyo’s Heian Room. On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, delivered his welcome remarks underscoring the significance of the 5th December for the Thai people, where the National Day, the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, and Thailand’s Father’s Day, all align on the same day. The Ambassador further reiterated the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Japan which have lasted for over 137 years, notably through the close ties between the royal families of both countries and exchanges of high level visits and talks as well as cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) framework.
Following the Ambassador, H.E. Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, as Guest of Honour, delivered his remarks, emphasising the pivotal role that Thailand plays in the development of ASEAN and the Mekong Region and as an important partner for Japan in realising the 'Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), the two-way investment and the continuous meeting of high-level officials. Afterwards, H.E. Mr. KIUCHI Minoru, Minister in charge of Economic Security and Special Affairs, lauded the contribution to Thailand of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and His Majesty the King. He stressed that Thailand is importance of the long and cordial relations between both countries and means to deepen cooperation. He ended the remarks by raising a toast to His Majesty the King and to the prosperity of Thailand as well as Thai-Japanese friendship.
The reception was attended by nearly 800 people, including the diplomatic corps of various countries in Japan, Japanese government officials, and representatives from the Japanese private sector, as well as Thai nationals living in Japan, who play a crucial role in fostering the Thai-Japanese relations.
