On 3 February 2023, Mr. Shin Dal-Weon, Nuclear Energy Team Leader of Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) paid a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, to convey the company’s interest in initiating cooperation with Thailand. Both sides exchanged views on the nuclear energy markets and developments in the ROK, ASEAN, and worldwide, as well as opportunities to explore cooperation with Thailand. In this regard, Ambassador emphasized the importance Thailand attaches to transforming to clean energy, and agreed that both sides could potentially explore cooperation on (1) management/decommissioning services for nuclear equipment that is being used for peaceful purposes in Thailand (2) feasibility studies on the usage of nuclear energy for electricity generation, and (3) knowledge-sharing on the benefits of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and how to manage its impacts on the environment and local communities, before advancing towards larger cooperation projects in the future.
