On 1 April 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, called on YBHG. Dato’ Bala Chandran Tharman, Deputy Secretary – General (Multilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
Ambassador congratulated Deputy Secretary-General Bala for taking up the important position and expressed her readiness and commitment to further strengthen Thailand – Malaysia bilateral and multilateral relations by supporting Thailand and Malaysia’s roles on international stage under the UN framework. On this occasion, Ambassador extended congratulations to the Malaysian Government on the successful presentation of its National Report for the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) at the UN’s Human Rights Council.
Both sides exchanged views and information on multilateral cooperation such as constructive role of Thailand as observer in Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), positive developments in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces (SBPs) and further cooperation with OIC, Thailand’s readiness to support Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, while Ambassador also plays supportive role as the President of ASEAN Ladies’ Circle (ALC), promotion of cooperation among ASEAN member states, including support for Thailand’s initiative on humanitarian assistance along the Thai – Myanmar border, situation in Gaza and its impacts, and the assistance to Thai nationals being held hostage.
The discussion was candid and constructive in a friendly atmosphere. Both sides expressed their readiness to work closely together through continued and intensive cooperation on various multilateral frameworks to further strengthen Thailand – Malaysia relations.
