On 17 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, signed the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (“BBNJ Agreement”) in New York.

Thailand is the 113th country to sign the BBNJ Agreement. The signing was witnessed by Mr. David Nanopoulos, Chief of the Treaty Section, and underlines Thailand’s commitment to cooperate with the international community in regulating activities that take place in or affect marine resources beyond national jurisdiction. To advance Thailand’s process towards the ratification of the BBNJ Agreement, the Ministry will collaborate with relevant agencies to comprehensively facilitate the process, including reviewing domestic laws and organizational management, ensuring Thailand will benefit from the mechanisms established under the Agreement.
