                   H.E. Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Nations, hosted the 2019 International Vesak Day Commemorative Event, together with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, on 17 May 2019, in the General Assembly Hall, United Nations Headquarters, New York.  The event was participated by the President of the General Assembly, the Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary General of the United Nations, and a large number of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives and

high-level representatives of United Nations Member States, and Honorable Monks Venerable Bikkhu Bodhi and Reverend Dr. Kenjitsu Nakagaki.  Participants gave their best wishes on this auspicious occasion as well as reflect and draw inspirations from the teachings of Lord Buddha, which remain valid and relevant in today’s context.  Participants widely acknowledged that Lord Buddha’s teachings are relevant and closely resonate the principles and the work of the United Nations, including peace, compassion, promotion and protection of human rights, non-violence, leading to peaceful and harmonious society and sustainable development.  

                   The Event also welcomed monks of different sects of Buddhis, as well as over 700 Buddhist and non-Buddhist participants, including from the Thai community in the New York State area.
