On 12 February 2018, Professor Adam W. Jelonek, Director of the Institute of the Middle and Far East, Jagiellonian University and Assistant Professor Jerzy Bayer from Department of Southeast Asia, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Sansanee Sahussarungsi, Ambassador of Thailand to Poland at the Royal Thai Embassy in order to invite Ambassador Sahussarungi to give a special lecture about Thailand at the University.They discussed and exchanged views on the opportunity to further develop educational cooperation between Jagiellonian University and universities in Thailand such as an exchange program of students and university staff, and a joint research program etc. Besides, Professor Jelonek updated on the establishment of Department of Southeast Asia, which was the first ever that there was a department focusing on Southeast Asia study in particular and introducing a curriculum on language study, as well as culture and history of the countries in this region.
