On 21 September 2016 at 18.30 – 22.00 hours, the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo organised “Thai Festival 2016” at Kingsbury Hotel and invited Sri Lankan high – ranking officials, businessmen, travel agents, and media as well as diplomatic corps to join the Festival. 

             Consecutively, the Royal Thai Embassy has organized Thai Festival in Sri Lanka. The main objective of this event is to promote culture, food and tourism in Thailand as well as people-to-people ties between Thailand and Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the Royal Thai Embassy in collaboration with Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai Office, brought the Thai boxers from Fairtex Group to demonstrate Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) at the Thai Festival. 

There were around 250 guests participated in the Festival including Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Finance, Hon. Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. Mr. Daya Gamage, Minister of Primary Industries, Hon. Ms. Anoma Gamage, Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resource Development, Hon. Dr. Harsha de Silva , Deputy Foreign Minister, Hon. Mr. Niroshan Perera, 

              State Minister of National Policy and Economic Affairs, Hon. Mr. A. H. M. Fowzie, State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi , Secretary of Ministry of Defence, Air Chief Marshal K. A. Gunatilleke, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal G.P. Bulathsinghala, Commander of Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, Inspector General of Police, Mr. N. Ranasinghe, Controller General of Department of Immigration and Emigration, Mr. Ameer Ajwar, Director General of East Asia and Pacific, Ms. Indira Malwatte, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Export Development and more than 10 Ambassadors and High Commissioners.  His Excellency Mr. Nopporn Achariyavanich, Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka also drew a lucky winner for a round-trip ticket to Bangkok which is sponsored by Thai Airways International.  The Thai Festival was a successful event because the Festival itself and all Thai cultural shows, which were performed during the Festival as well as the Thai food arranged by Thai Chef have received numerous praised from the prestigious guests.
