          "During 27 – 30 June 2016, Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Ambassador of Thailand and spouse, Mr. Vathayudh Vichankaiyakij, Minister Counsellor, and M.L. Bhutong Thongyai, Director of Thai Trade Centre, Sydney, paid an official visit to the State of Tasmania. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Abhirat Achalabun, Honorary Consul - General of Thailand in Hobart.

           During the official visit, the Ambassador met with (1) The Hon Elise Archer MP, Speaker of the House of Assembly (2) The Hon Bryan Green MP, Leader of Opposition (3) Mr Mark Shelton MP, Deputy Speaker, representing the Premier (4) Alderman Ron Christie, Deputy Lord Mayor of Hobart (5) The Hon Justice Shan Eve Tennent (6) Mr Mark Bowles, Executive Director, Trade and International Relations, Department of State Growth. Topics crucial to the strengthening and enhancing of the relations between Thailand and Tasmania including trade and investment, education, and tourism were extensively discussed during the various meetings. H.E. Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AM, Governor of Tasmania, also hosted a formal dinner for the Ambassador and his delegation.

            The Ambassador also visited Nyrstar Hobart smelter (one of the world’s largest zinc smelters in terms of production volume), and Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Australia’s leading health and medical research institute), and hosted a dinner for the Thai community in Tasmania."
