Ambassador attends Vesak Day in Ottawa and Asian Heritage festival

On 7 May 2016, Ambassador Vijavat and Mrs. Wannipa Isarabhakdi attended the Vesak Day in Ottawa and Asian Heritage festival, organized by Sirin Foundation and Buddhist communities in Ottawa, at the Ottawa City Hall as well as the Buddhist flag raising ceremony which took place prior to the main event.
Representing the Mayor of Ottawa and the City Council, Councillor Jean Cloutier proclaimed 21 May 2016 as the Day of Vesak in Ottawa. Special messages from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario, were also read during the event.
There were several religious and cultural activities throughout the day, for example, a chanting for world peace by Sangha of various groups, a classical Thai dance by the Thai Dance Troupe of Ottawa (TDO), and cultural performances by several countries such as China, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Laos. There were also booth showcases set up by a number of Embassies and non-profit organizations, including the Royal Thai Embassy.
