            On 3 April 2016 at 16.30 hrs., H.E. Mr. Thongchai Chasawath, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore presided over the Songkran Festival organized by Centre for Language Studies (CLS), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS), at Town Plaza in U-Town. Ambassador Thongchai Chasawath gave opening remarks to welcome participants and explain the history and tradition of the Songkran Festival celebrated in Thailand and other countries in the region. At the event, there were the “Rod Nam Dum Hua” (water-blessing) ceremony, traditional Thai cultural dance shows by the Thai Dance Society in Singapore, contemporary Thai music performance by CLS students, and exquisite Thai food provided by the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore as well as several Thai communities and associations in Singapore.  
            The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore makes regular contributions every year in support of the CLS’ activities, with a view to disseminating knowledge about Thai language and culture among Singaporeans and foreigners in Singapore.
