Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to attend the 12th ASEM Foreign Ministers Meeting in Luxembourg

         H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, will be attending the 12th ASEM Foreign Ministers Meeting (ASEM FMM 12) on 5 – 6 November 2015 in Luxembourg.

          The ASEM FMM 12 is convened under the theme “Working Together for a Sustainable and Secure Future” and comprises 2 Plenary Sessions that will focus on (1) Climate Change, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Disaster Management”, and (2) “Connectivity and the Future of ASEM”. The ASEM Foreign Ministers will have a chance to discuss regional and international issues in Retreat Session.


          At this meeting, Foreign Minister Don will stress the importance of connectivity in all aspects, be they transport linkages, economic interactions,tourism, exchange of students, transfer of technology and cultural exchanges, as connectivity will be a key issue in driving the future direction of ASEM.He is also expected to touch upon common challenges faced by Asia and Europe, such as irregular migration.


          The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is a platform for dialogue between Asia and Europe to discuss issues of mutual interest. ASEM aims to strengthen relations, promote cooperation and deepen understanding between ASEM partners in (1) political, (2) economic and (3) social-cultural aspects. Cooperation and activities of ASEM involves participation from government sectors, civil society and private sectors at all levels. ASEM is currently the only cooperation framework between Asia and Europe at the Leaders’ level.
