On 16th October 2015, H.E. Mr. Petrit Selimi, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic
of Kosovo called on H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, to
discuss bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
In terms of bilateral cooperation, both sides agreed to establish a structured dialogue
as mechanism for mutual cooperation and negotiations as well as to work together on the
Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports to promote
more contact and interaction between each other. On this occasion, Kosovo expressed
its interest in opening an Embassy in Thailand and Thailand offered collaboration for
technical development in Kosovo in areas that Thailand has expertise such as agriculture,
food technology and public health.
Relating to multilateral for a, Thailand welcomed Kosovo’s application to become a
UNESCO member and stands ready to cooperate with Kosovo in areas of education,
sciences and culture. In return, Kosovo has pledged its support for Thailand’s candidature
for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2017 – 2018
even though Kosovo is a non-member of the United Nations.
Furthermore, Kosovo shared its experience on its “Digital Diplomacy” which is a
strategy making young generation the major agent to present all content about Kosovo
on social network in order to gain recognition towards Kosovo among the international
community. In addition, “Interfaith Kosovo Dialogue” was also praised as a platform
aiming to build tolerance and harmonization among differences in the society.
The visit of H.E. Mr. Selimi to Thailand is the first high-level visit and the first high-level
meeting between Thailand and Kosovo since the establishment of their diplomatic relations
on 22nd November 2013.
