On 27 October 2015, Ambassadors of ASEAN member countries in Budapest (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Viet Nam), jointly called on H.E. Mr. Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
Minister Szijjarto affirmed Hungary’s intention to boost economic cooperation between ASEAN and EU. Hungary has allocated 360 scholarships for ASEAN citizens, of which 160 scholarships have been fulfilled. With regard to the problem of mass migration, Hungary succeeded in halting the influx of migrant into the country. Yet, it is still crucial that EU render its assistance in guarding the Schengen border. Hungary does not support the proposal of the European Commission on using the quota system to relocate migrants to each EU member country.
H.E. Mrs. Kanthong Unakul, Ambassador of Thailand to Hungary thanked Hungary for hosting the 2nd Thai-Hungarian Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation. Thailand looks forward to working with Hungary in enhancing mutual economic gains in trade and investment. Thailand has recently designated Special Economic Zones along the border which might be a good option for Hungarian business sector to have investment.
