            Thailand has opened a new Honorary Consulate in Guadalajara. The official ceremony took place on 23 September 2015 at Biblioteca House in Guadalajara. H.E. SurasakChuasukonthip, Ambassador of Thailand to Mexico, and Mr. Roberto López Lara, representative of the Governor of Jalisco, co-presided the ceremony. The Ambassador of Thailand handed over the Letter of Patent and the Coat of Arms of the Honorary Consulate to Mr. José Guillermo Romo Romero.
 
            Mr.José Guillermo Romo Romero has been appointed as Honorary Consul of Thailand in Guadalajara. He is a successful, young entrepreneur from a family of tequila tradition and has diversified businesses in the financial and agricultural sectors. Mr. Romo also has an outstanding role in philanthropic work including being a founding member of the Americas Business Council Foundation.
 
            The ceremony was attended by well-regarded personalities of Guadalajara from the Government, the private and academic sectors, as well as consuls and honorary consuls of various countries in Guadalajara.
 
            The Honorary Consulate will play an important role in facilitating travel by Mexicans to Thailand through visa issuance, as well as help promote bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the field of tourism, culture, trade and investment and cooperation.The Honorary Consulate has jurisdiction over 9 states including Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Colima, Nayarit,Sinaloa, Sonoraand Zacatecas.
 
            The ceremony was followed by a Thai dance performance and a cocktail reception with Mexican and Asian fusion food.
