On 15 October 2015, H.E. Mr. Glyn T. Davies, Ambassador of the United States of America to Thailand paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of his assumption of duty.
During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador shared the view that the relationship between Thailand and the United States has progressed positively over the past 182 years. They were satisfied that cooperation between both sides has grown to cover many fields, encompassing political-security, economic, and socio-cultural issues. The Ambassador stated his wish to create a win-win partnership and push forward Thailand – United States cooperation on issues of interest to both sides. Such areas include education, science and technology, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workforce development and renewable energy technology development.
Furthermore, both sides expressed their mutual appreciation at how the partnership extends into multilateral fora, where Thailand is a keen supporter of the United States’ activities and projects in areas such as security, healthcare, the environment, peacekeeping, and climate change. The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Thailand’s support in those areas and its readiness to help promote the United States’ role in ASEAN as well as other sub-regional cooperation initiatives in Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Davies assumed his position on 2 October 2015. A senior diplomat with a career spanning over 30 years, he was formerly a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the Department of State. Ambassador Davies also previously served as the Special Representative of the U.S. Secretary of State for North Korea Policy from January 2012 to November 2014.
