   On 29 January 2015, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Bin Tun Hussein, Minister of Defence of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of his visit for the 52nd General Border Committee Meeting (GBC) between Thailand and Malaysia in Bangkok.
   Both sides noted with satisfaction the close relations between Thailand and Malaysia, particularly between the Leaders and the armed forces. They are confident that the 52nd GBC meeting will bring about fruitful outcome and further strengthen relations between the two countries.
   Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs offered his condolences on the massive flood in the northern states of Malaysia in December 2014 and the Malaysian side expressed appreciation to the Royal Family Members of Thailand and the Royal Thai Government for the flood relief assistance.
   Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin congratulated the Royal Thai Government on its efforts to implementing the 3-stage roadmap on national reconciliation and expressed Malaysia’s readiness to support Thailand in this endeavor.    
   Both sides exchanged views on the challenges resulting from international terrorism and extremism. The Minister of Defense of Malaysia proposed that both sides cooperate closely in countering to tackle the said challenges.   
   The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the commitment of the Royal Thai Government to solve the situation in the Southern Border Provinces of Thailand (SBPs) through peaceful means and to work closely with Malaysia, as the facilitator in the peace dialogue, in bringing about a peaceful solution to SBPs.
  Thailand and Malaysia share close relations in all aspects. The GBC, co-chaired by the Minister of Defence of both sides, is the highest security mechanism between the two countries, co-chaired by the  Ministers of Defence of both sides. There have already been three consultations between the Prime Minister of the two countries in the past three months, reflecting the close relations between the two Leaders and the dynamism in the bilateral relations. This visit also marks the first visit by the Minister of Defence of Malaysia since assuming chairmanship of the ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting.
