Ambassador of Brazil to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 29 January 2015, Mr. Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura, Ambassador of Brazil to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on General Thanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs offered his congratulations on the re-election of Mrs. Dilma Rousseff’s as President of Brazil and Mr. Mauro Vieira’s appointment as Minister of External Relations of Brazil on 1 January 2015. He extended an invitation to the Minister of External Relations of Brazil to visit Thailand and also expressed his readiness to visit Brazil.

Both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation including trade and investment promotion, technical cooperation, renewable energy, especially biofuels, as well as Thai investment in energy sector in Brazil. The discussion also touched upon the cooperation on the fields of agriculture, culture and sports particularly Muay Thai, which is very popular in Brazil. Both sides agreed to work closely on these matters as well as to expedite the negotiations on the pending agreements between the two countries.

The Ambassador of Brazil also informed its plan to open another Honorary Consulate of Brazil in Chiang Mai, in addition to the current one in Phuket. He also sought support from Thailand for its position towards UNSC reform and for its 2nd term candidacy for the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
