On 25 August 2014, H.E. Mr. Krit Kraichitti, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, signed an MOU with Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi Hj Ramlan, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to renew cooperation on the establishment of the Thai Studies Programme at UPM, with the support of the Embassy, for its second year. The Thai Studies Programme at UPM was founded in 2013 with a view to promoting greater studies and research about Thailand and Thai-Malaysian relations at leading Malaysian universities. The second year activities of the Programme shall include encouragement of research about Thailand, student and lecturer exchange activities, and promotion of cooperation between UPM and Thai universities in various aspects such as the halal standards.

Apart from extending the cooperation on the Thai Studies Programme, both sides also engaged in a discussion regarding other areas or dimensions of cooperation such as the idea of establishment of digital network of research works and encouragement for more Thai students to study in Malaysia and vice versa.
