The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, in collaboration with the Devawongsevaropakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs had the pleasure to receive 20 newly-recruited Thai diplomats batch 2014 for on-the-job training at the Embassy, with the aim to educate the new diplomats on various developments of Myanmar and to have exposure of diplomatic life in real situation. Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata led the newly-recruited diplomats to Nay Pyi Taw to attend briefing sessions with the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Myanmar Parliament. They were provided with insights about Myanmar’s current situation and national strategy for development. Later on, the Thai diplomats also had a social networking gathering with their counterparts at the Myanmar MFA. Warmly presided by H.E. U Thant Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, this event successfully cultivated bonds of friendship among both young diplomats.

In Yangon, the new diplomats were briefed on in-depth analysis on the bilateral relationship between Thailand and Myanmar, and guided for their on-the-job training at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon. They met ASEAN diplomats and members of Team Thailand, as well as gave a fresh interview with Myanmar media at a reception hosted by the Thai Ambassador in which they made it fulfilled with a choral song of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej “Oh I Say”.

The overall trip was a great succes as the young Thai diplomats were able to get to know Myanmar,  establish friendly relations with ASEAN diplomats, particularly their Myanmar counterparts. They also learned about the role and life of a diplomat which will serve as a concrete foundation for their future career. The friendship cultivated during this trip between them and their ASEAN colleagues will also contribute to the development of Thai-Myanmar relations as well as the creation of ASEAN Community.
