Thailand supports the upgrading of Prosthetic Workshop at National Rehabilitation Hospital, Yangon

     On 3 December 2013, AmbassadorPisanuSuvanajataand Assoc. Prof. Dr. TherdchaiJivacate, Secretary-Generalofthe Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. the Princess Mother presented the renovated prosthetic workshop to National Rehabilitation Hospital, Yangon.  H.E. Prof. Dr. PeThetKhin, Union Minister for Health of Myanmar, presided over the presentation ceremony to receive therenovated workshop.
     The project “improvement of prosthetic service in Myanmar” is one of the commemorative activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Myanmar and Thailand diplomatic relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand provided budget and technical support for technicians from the National Rehabilitation Hospital to be trained at the Prostheses Foundation in Chiang Mai to learn how to make prostheses with Thailand’s internationally recognized prosthetic technology.  
     The prostheses workshop was renovated with the support of Siam Cement Group, or SCG, as part of its corporate social responsibility, and fully equipped with machines, tools, prosthetic parts and materials, supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon. Mr. SorasakKeeratichokchaikul of SCG was also present to witness the ceremony. 
     In his remarks, Union Minister for Health thanked the Royal Thai Government and the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. the Princess Mother for transferring advanced technology in production of prostheses, and urged the National Rehabilitation Hospital to make good use of the machines and materials provided under the project for the benefit of the disabled. Ambassador Pisanu noted that this project would not only be the symbol of friendship, but also have impact on the improvement ofthe living conditions of those in need of prosthetic legs in the way that they can be independent and live their lives normally.
     The Prostheses Foundation researched and developed its own technology to produce prostheses which are light, durable, and comfortable to wear, almost like a natural leg.  The patients can get their new legs within a few days.
