On 25 September 2019, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the High-level Commemorative Event on the Occasion of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) during the UNGA74 in New York, USA to reiterate the importance Thailand attaches to the promotion and protection of the rights of the child.
Delivering remarks at the event were the President of the General Assembly, UN Secretary-General, Ms. Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director, Ms. Muzoon Almellehan, a Syrian refugee UNICEF goodwill ambassador, leaders and youths from various regional groups around the world who were the first in their respective regions to ratify the Convention, namely Poland, Vietnam, Ghana, Ecuador, Sweden, Russia. The meeting emphasized the need to address challenges that affect children, such as access to education and public health services, climate change, technological disruption, migration, violence and conflicts. The meeting also emphasized the need to put children first in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Thailand ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 27 March 1992, and the Convention took effect in Thailand on 26 April 1992. Thailand also ratified all the Optional Protocols to the Convention. This year Thailand will organize activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Convention on 20 November 2019.
