Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand joined world leaders’ in reaffirming commitment at the SDG Summit 2019

On 24 September 2019, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister, attended the SDG Summit, the first United Nations summit on the SDGs since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, during the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in New York, the United States.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister delivered a statement on behalf of ASEAN Member States. The Prime Minister highlighted ASEAN’s efforts to achieve the SDGs under the theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” and to enhance complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda. ASEAN committed to accelerate its actions and localise the SDGs in order to move towards a people-centred Community by enhancing connectivity, reducing inequalities, using science, technology and innovation to improve quality of life in line with ASEAN goal for a Digital and Green ASEAN, as well as protecting and restoring the environment, promoting the sustainable use of ocean resources, and eradicating marine debris. Moreover, ASEAN will promote cooperation through free trade and the multilateral trading system, advance the SMART Cities Network, and cooperate with the United Nations and other Member States both in the region and beyond.

The Prime Minister, together with other global leaders, adopted the Political Declaration of the SDG Summit to reiterate the leaders’ commitment in implementing and accelerating actions to achieve the SDGs in 2030.
