On 25 September 2019, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Thai Foreign Minister also attended the meeting.
The Prime Minister congratulated the UNGA President for his assumption of the office and expressed Thailand’s readiness to cooperate with him to advance the works of the United Nations.
The Prime Minister and the UNGA President exchanged views on the issues of global challenges, including particularly sustainable development and climate change. The Prime Minister recounted the experience of Thailand on sustainable development goals (SDGs), guided by the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP), as well as Thailand’s efforts in addressing climate change.
Moreover, the Prime Minister spoke about Thailand’s experience on the universal health coverage which is internationally recognized, and expressed Thailand’s readiness to share such knowledge with other countries.
As the current Chair of ASEAN, Thailand is ready to promote ASEAN-UN collaboration, particularly on sustainable development.
The UNGA President thanked Thailand for being a co-facilitator in drafting a political declaration on universal health coverage, which was adopted by leaders on 23 September 2019. The President also praised Thailand’s efforts in driving forward sustainable development agenda and encouraged Thailand to share its experience to other countries.
The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to the UNGA President to visit Thailand at a convenient time in the future.
