On 21 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, led the diplomatic corps accredited to Thailand and MFA executives, together with their spouses, in attending a briefing and taking part in several activities at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya and Laem Pho Royal Commemorative Public Park, Municipality of Phum Riang Subdistrict, during the 2026 Study Visit to learn about Royal Initiative Projects, as well as Thailand’s potentials and national identity in Surat Thani province on 19 - 21 February 2026. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Prasop Riangngoen, Permanent Secretary for Culture; Ms. Ranee Itarat, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Culture; Mr. Wittasak Jumruinusit, Vice Governor of Suratthani Province; Mr. Chayunrat Rungrojwararak, Chief District of Chaiya District; Heads of local government agencies; and relevant stakeholders, together with 800 traditional dancers from 14 southern provinces.

The delegation participated in the cloth-wrapping ceremony around the pagoda at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, providing the diplomatic corps with an opportunity to experience one of Thailand’s long-standing traditions. The programme also included a briefing on the site’s history, architecture, and archaeology, as well as a visit to OTOP exhibition booths showcasing Chaiya District’s products, all of which were co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Chaiya District.

Afterwards, the delegation proceeded to Laem Pho Royal Commemorative Public Park, Municipality of Phum Riang Subdistrict, to take part in a series of ecological and cultural activities organized by the Phum Riang Community-Based Ecotourism Group. These included the release of blue crabs under the Municipality’s “Crab Bank Project,” demonstrating environmental conservation efforts and the preservation of marine biodiversity in line with Thailand’s principles of sustainable development. In addition, the delegation enjoyed local highlights of Chaiya District, including a demonstration of Muay Chaiya, hands-on workshops on making traditional Khai Mok (steamed eggs) and Chaiya salted eggs, as well as viewing and purchasing local woven textile products of the Phum Riang community.
