Prime Minister underlines sustainable and balanced food systems at the United Nations Food Systems Summit

The Prime Minister called on all stakeholders to work together to transform food systems towards greater sustainability and balance in all dimensions and shared Thailand’s vision of “Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability” for food systems transformation towards 3S at the United Nations Food Systems Summit.

On 23 September 2021, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, delivered a pre-recorded statement at the UN Food Systems Summit. The Summit convened over 150 Heads of States and Governments in an effort to mobilise action to transform food systems towards sustainability.

The Prime Minister called on all stakeholders to work together to transform food systems towards greater sustainability and balance in all dimensions, strengthen food security, and ensure equitable access to safe and healthy diets for all. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the Royal Thai Government stands ready to work closely together with its partners and coalitions at both national and global levels to transform food systems towards sustainable development that leaves no one behind.

In addition, the Prime Minister shared Thailand’s vision of “Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability” for food systems transformation towards 3S that emphasises food Safety, food Security, and Sustainability of natural resources and agro-ecology. The Prime Minister also highlighted Thailand’s efforts to advance the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model (BCG Model) for sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth. These efforts are guided by the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN Food Systems Summit was convened for the first time under the initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations during the High-level Week of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 76). The Summit aims to empower all people to leverage the power of food systems to drive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage world leaders to reaffirm their commitments and plans of action on food systems transformation to deliver progress across SDGs in this Decade of Action.
