On 9 January 2025, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, attended the opening ceremony of the Thailand National Model United Nations (MUN) Conference at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), Bangkok. The event was organized by the Thammasat University MUN Club in collaboration with youth networks from universities across Thailand. This marked the first Thailand MUN conference.
The Director-General delivered opening remarks emphasizing the important role of youths in national development and in creating a world that leaves no one behind. The Director-General also mentioned about the challenges in negotiations at the United Nations to reach common solutions due to the differing priorities and interests of its 193 Member States. In this regard, the Director-General viewed that the MUN conference served as a good opportunity for youth delegates to gain first hand experiences in negotiation and hone their negotiation skills in striking a balance between advocating for the national interests of their respective countries with working towards solutions that benefited the global community at large.
Furthermore, for the delegates interested in engaging in real United Nations discussions, the Director-General highlighted initiatives by the Department of International Organizations to send Thai youth delegates to the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2025 and the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
