Ambassador Tanee meets International Cooperation Bureau’s DG, Ministry of Employment and Labor of the ROK, to strengthen labour-related cooperation

On 18 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, had a meeting with Mr. Park Il Hoon, Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Employment and Labor of the ROK, to further strengthen cooperation on Thailand-ROK’s labour-related issues. Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Minister, and Mrs. Sirirat Srichart, Labour Attaché, also presented in the meeting.
 
Ambassador Tanee requested to increase more quotas for non-professional workers (E-9) under the Employment Permit System (EPS), especially in service sectors which the Thai side ready to send its workers to the ROK such as sous chef, hotel/condo, requested additional quotas for hiring Thai workers as non-professional workers (E-9) in new sectors including logistics, mining and forestry, housekeeping and hiring skilled workers (E-7) in construction sector.
 
Ambassador also requested support from the Ministry of Employment and Labor of the ROK in hiring seasonal workers from Thailand, asked for the Ministry’s cooperation in overseeing Korean employers to pay salary and provide welfare benefits for Thai workers in accordance with the ROK’s laws. Director General Park agreed to support all the above-mentioned issues.
Both sides agreed to solve the problem of undocumented Thai workers in the ROK by suppressing brokers and employers who hire illegal workers, enhancing strict checking process of labour control checkpoints at International Airports in Thailand and promoting Thai illegal immigrants to leave the ROK voluntarily to allow Thailand’s Department of Employment to get more quotas for Thai workers to work legally in the ROK.
 
Ambassador emphasised that the Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul, and the Thai Labour Office, Seoul, attached high importance to raising awareness among Thai workers to refrain from drugs and comply with the ROK’s laws.
