On 17 November 2025, Mr. Benjamin Sukanjanajtee, Director-General of the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, delivered opening remarks for the 2025 United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Asia-Pacific at UNESCAP in Bangkok, where Ms. Armida Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, and Ms. Carla Gomes Horner Hoe, Senior Legal Officer of the Codification Division, UN Office of Legal Affairs, also delivered remarks. The Course takes place from 17 November to 10 December 2025, with 23 legal professionals from 18 countries across Asia-Pacific region, as well as representatives from Thai government agencies participating.

Thailand has been selected as a co-host of the United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Asia-Pacific since 1986. The Course forms part of the UN Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law, established by the General Assembly in 1965 to promote knowledge and understanding of international law among developing countries, strengthen the capacity of government officials and academics working in the field, and foster a network of legal experts across in the Asia-Pacific region.

Thailand’s continued co-hosting of this programme for 11 consecutive years demonstrates the country’s role and commitment in multilateral fora and its dedication to supporting the development of international law at both regional and global levels. It also contributes to positioning Thailand as a regional hub for international law in the Asia-Pacific region and reflects the strong cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations - further enhancing Thailand’s profile and standing in the international arena.
