On 27 November 2023, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), discussed plans and cooperation between Thailand and UNESCAP in 2024.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation both at the national level and in ASEAN as Thailand is the ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation. The discussion also included the upcoming major ESCAP conferences in 2024 to further build upon the outcomes of the SDG Summit held in September 2023 and develop regional inputs for the Summit of the Future to be held in September 2024, as well as reviving the effective multilateralism and enhancing UN’s role for international cooperation to meet challenges head on.

In addition, they also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the renovation project for ESCAP premises in Bangkok and to increase the number of Thai nationals at the UN.
