Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand hosted a working lunch for Ambassadors of BRICS countries

On 8 November 2024, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, hosted a working lunch for ambassadors and representatives from Embassies of BRICS countries residing in Thailand.

Ambassadors and representatives from embassies of BRICS countries were pleased with close relations between Thailand and BRICS countries, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism. They underscored that BRICS’s aim is to strengthen multilateralism particularly among countries of the Global South and emerging markets. Russia as Chair of BRICS this year has recently hosted a BRICS and BRICS Plus Summit in October, before passing the chairmanship to Brazil next year. Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs emphasised Thailand’s determination to deepen engagement with BRICS in particular to supporting multilateralism, reforming the international financial architecture, and promoting south-south cooperation.

Thailand has participated in BRICS Plus mechanism since 2017, and attended 4 BRICS Plus Summits, namely in 2017 (Xiamen, China), 2022 (via Video Conference hosted by China), 2023 (Johannesburg, South Africa), and 2024 (Kazan, Russia). In the most recently meeting, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, attended as a representative of the Prime Minister of Thailand.
