On 14 - 15 February 2023, Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thailand to Italian Republic paid an official visit to Genoa, Italy. During the visit, Ambassador Kananurak and Mr. Franco Novi, Honorary Consul-General of Thailand to Genoa, met with Mr. Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa, Mr. Luigi Attanasio, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Genoa together with a group of Genoese businesspersons from the energy, machinery, communications, and cosmetics sectors. She also had a meeting with Mr. Paolo Emilio Signorini, President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority.

 

Ambassador had discussions with Genoa’s representatives and businesspersons on opportunities for the promotion of business, trade and investment cooperation between Thailand-Italy and Thailand-Genoa. She highlighted Thailand's economic potentials, trade between Thailand and Italy as well as the current investment policy to attract foreign investment in 12 targeted industries and 4 emerging clusters in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Thailand, to further advance the economy and support post-COVID-19 economic recovery namely (1) health and well-being (2) decarbonization (3) digital technology and (4) smart logistics. The Genoa’s representatives shared information on business opportunities in Genoa and the city’s new infrastructure development projects in the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure for transportation and logistics, which will provide important business opportunity between Genoa and Thailand as well as Southeast Asia. Both sides also exchanged views on ways to promote cruise tourism industry.

 

On this occasion, Ambassador Kananurak also visited the Honorary Consulate-General in Genoa and made a site visit of the Ports of Genoa which was organized by the Port Authority.

 

The city of Genoa is Italy's “Industrial Triangle (Milan-Turin-Genoa), which is well known for its shipbuilding industry, logistics and distribution service, and research and innovation, especially in the area of robotics. At present, the Ports of Genoa terminals handle about 90% of Thailand’s export to Italy.
