The Royal Thai Embassy is pleased to inform the Thai community in Norway and our Friends of Thailand in Norway that on 26 October 2023, Vei, Stein og Hage AS, the construction company which the Embassy has commissioned to renovate His Majesty King Chulalongkorn’s Monument in Brevik, have successfully installed the new inscribed stainless-steel plaques, as designed by the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture of Thailand. The new plaques, which provided historical information about the Monument, were placed at both sides of the monument, one side in Thai language and the other side in English and Norwegian. H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, and the Thai community in Brevik and nearby areas will visit Brevik in December 2023 to pay her respect to the Monument.
The Royal Thai Embassy places a high importance to the conservation and maintenance of the monument for the future generation as a tribute to His Majesty King Chulalongkorn’s Royal Visit to Norway in 1907, which paved a solid foundation for the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Norway, especially people-to-people relations. The completion of the renovation project in October 2023 is also a good phenomenon as it also coincided with King Chulalongkorn’s Memorial Day on 23 October or Phrapiyamaharaj Day, “the Great King Very Much Loved” by his peoples for his determination and dedication for the betterment of his people and country.
