Ambassador of Thailand to Norway had a meeting with Acting Director General of Trade Policy Department, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries of Norway

On 8 March 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, had a meeting with H.E. Mrs. Vibeke Greni, Acting Director General of Trade Policy Department, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries of Norway, to seek support from Norway for Thailand’s bid to host the Expo 2028 in Phuket under the theme “Future of Life: Living in Harmony, Sharing Prosperity.” Ms. Astrid Grindheim, Senior Advisor of Trade Policy Department, Mr. Monsak Jangariyawong, Minister Counsellor and Ms. Potchamas Saengthein, Counsellor, also attended the said meeting.

Ambassador Ruksakiati presented Thailand’s vision to host the Expo 2028 in Phuket by emphasizing great potentials for cooperation between Thailand and Norway on Norway’s Green Transition Policy and Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Support from Norway for Thailand’s candidature for the Expo 2028 in Phuket will highlight our joint efforts in bringing green and sustainability concepts closer to the people and the local communities and the grassroots economy. H.E. Mrs. Vibeke Greni, Acting Director General of Trade Policy Department, said that Thailand’s presentation of the Expo 2028 in Phuket was very interesting and will take this matter into consideration.

Ambassador Ruksakiati also took this opportunity to discuss and exchange views about Thai massage parlors in Norway with concealed sex trade. In order to address this problem in a comprehensive and constructive manner, Ambassador Ruksakiati presented the project on standard upgrading and empowerment of Thai massage in Norway, a joint initiative by the Embassy and the Thai Women’s Association in Norway, and seek a support from the Norwegian authorities concerned. H.E. Mrs. Vibeke Greni, Acting Director General of Trade Policy Department, said that this project is a very honourable and good initiative which will contribute positively to the Norwegian society and expressed her support for this project.
