On 4 March 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassaor of Thailand to Norway, presided over a merit making ceremony on the occasion of the Makha Bucha Day at Wat Thai Norway. The religious ceremony was conducted by Phra Vimolsasanavides, Abbot of Wat Thai Norway and Chief of Thai Dhammaduta Bhikkhu Union in Europe, and members of the sangha, including Phramaha Singha Kavesago Bhikkhu, Abbot of Wat Thai Norway, Bergen. The Embassy’s officials and Thai community in Norway were also in attendance.
Phra Vimolsasanavides gave Dhamma teaching about the importance of Makha Bucha, the day when four phenomena happened, which are 1,250 disciples of the Lord Buddha gathered spontaneously, without prior appointment, all have been ordained by the Lord Buddha, making them his direct spiritual descendants, all of the disciples were “arahants,” or enlightened disciples, and it was the day of a full moon during the third lunar month. Furthermore, Makha Bucha commemorates Lord Buddha’s delivery of his fundamental teachings or Ovada Patimokkha, which contains the heart of Buddhism, namely, to abstain from all evil deeds, to cultivate wholesomeness, and to purify the mind.
Phra Vimolsasanavides and members of the sangha led everyone to “wian tian” or walking in procession with flowers and candles in hand three times circling the snow Chedi at the temple while chanting in paying respect to the Lord Buddha and the Dhamma.
May everyone be blessed with this merit. Sadhu ka.
