On 10 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Chittipat Tongprasroeth, Ambassador of Thailand to the Swiss Confederation, attended the New Year's reception for the diplomatic corps at the Federal Palace. H.E. Ms. Viola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection, and Sports, welcomed and greeted the Ambassadors and Charge d’affaires individually. Thereafter, H.E. Archbishop Martin Krebs, Apostolic Nuncio and dean of the diplomatic corps, expressed his good wishes to the President for the New Year 2024 and highlighted that Switzerland is highly recognised in the international community as an experienced mediator between different political and economic interests and as a bridge-builder between distant parts of the world. The President then gave a remarks which touched on 3 current international issues facing Switzerland, namely relations with the European Union, the international security situation and the state of multilateralism.
