On 4 December 2024, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with Ms. Haina Lu and Ms. Ivana Krstić, Members of the Working Group on discrimination against women and girls (WGDAWG), a Special Procedure under the Human Rights Council (HRC), on the occasion of their official country visit to Thailand during 2-13 December 2024. Both sides exchanged views on issues regarding the promotion of women’s rights and gender equality in Thailand and at the international level, as well as the support and promotion of the role of women in diplomacy.

During 2-4 December 2024, the Working Group visited the One Stop Crisis Center (OSCC) at the Police Hospital, Mother and Child Immigration Detention Center, and the Central Women's Correctional Institution. The Working Group also discussed with representatives from the Royal Thai Police, the Police Hospital, the Immigration Bureau, the Ministry of Public Health and the Parliament. In addition, they also attended cluster meetings with relevant government agencies to discuss issues related to justice, national security, and gender equality, as well as policy and planning, good governance and environment, education, tourism and cultures, and economy and society.

Thailand’s acceptance of the Working Group’s country visit was endorsed by the Prime Minister on 14 December 2023. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) is the main agency in receiving the working group with the support of other related agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The objective of the visit is for the Working Group to provide useful and practical recommendations to further strengthen the promotion and protection of the rights of women and girls in Thailand. The Working Group will present the full report of the visit to Thailand during the 59th Session of the Human Rights Council in June 2025 in Geneva.
