On 13 February 2023, Ms. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Director-General, Department of International Organizations, delivered opening remarks at the Asia and the Pacific Regional Seminar on the Contribution of Development to the Enjoyment of all Human Rights. Other keynote speakers also included Ms. Nada Al-Nashif, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, H.E. Mr. Václav Bálek, President of the Human Rights Council and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the UN Office at Geneva, and Mr. Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
DG emphasized the inextricable link between human rights and sustainable development, as highlighted by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, she underlined Thailand’s relevant policies and projects with an aim to leave no one behind the development process. The Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model (BCG Model), technical cooperation on human rights and development, and Thailand’s experiences and good practices relating to business and human rights were also mentioned throughout her remarks.
Conducted in accordance with Human Rights Council (HRC) Resolution 47/11, this event was part of a series of regional seminars on the topic. The goal is to allow Member States, relevant UN agencies, funds and programmes, international and regional organizations, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to identify challenges and gaps and share good practices and experiences. The summary of the seminar will be reported to the Human Rights Council at its 54th session.
DG Eksiri also met with the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights to discuss and exchange views on human rights in Thailand, cooperation between the Royal Thai Government and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the review process of the HRC, as well as the treaty bodies.
