On 17 June 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the ceremony marking the adoption of the Letter of Intent to promote Thai local products in international markets, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was also attended by H.E. Ms. Teerarat Samretvanich, Deputy Minister of Interior; Mr. Varavongsa Ramangkura, Vice Minister of Commerce; and Ms. Chayika Wongnapachant, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Letter of Intent is a joint initiative among key government agencies responsible for promoting Thai local products abroad, including the Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce; the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior; and the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization).
The Foreign Minister reiterated the importance of local Thai wisdom and creativity in generating added value throughout the value chain, and the firm commitment of agencies concerned in promoting Thai local products in global markets, in line with Thailand’s policy to advance its soft power on the international stage. In addtion, the Foreign Minister also viewed the “From Local to Global: Connecting Thai Localities to the World” exhibition, which featured a selection of OTOP Premium products. These products will be showcased at the upcoming Thai Festival and business-matching activities in London at the end of June 2025, which is the first event under this new initiative.
The “From Local to Global” project is a collaborative effort among the four agencies, aiming to support the export of Thai local products, particularly OTOP (One Tambon, One Product) items, to global markets through the leadership of Team Thailand, comprising 95 Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates-General worldwide. The initiative seeks to identify and capitalize on opportunities to promote local Thai products internationally. Promotion campaigns will be carried out through various channels, including Thai festivals, international roadshows, product showcases and sales in overseas retail stores, and online platforms. Five pilot cities have been identified for the initial phase: Moscow, Riyadh, London, Astana, and Osaka.
