On 31 May 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who graciously paid a private visit to preside over the opening ceremony of the Celebration of the Auspicious Occasion of “100 Years of the Aura of King Prajadhipok among Thai Students in France” at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This event aimed to express gratitude for His Majesty King Prajadhipok’s benevolence, as well as to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the graduation of His Majesty King Prajadhipok, who was the first Thai student to graduate from École de Guerre, France, when His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Prajadhipok Sakdidej, Prince of Sukhothai.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with the Ambassador of France to Thailand and President of the French Former Students Association under the Royal Patronage, humbly addressed Her Royal Highness, to convey heartfelt remembrance of the grace of His Majesty King Prajadhipok and the members of the Royal Family, who have promoted tirelessly Thailand-France cooperation, serving as the cornerstone of the special ties between the two countries.
The event was highlighted by a theatrical performance of “100 Years of the Aura of King Prajadhipok among Thai Students in France” illustrated the history of Thailand-France relations, spanning from the reign of King Ramathibodi III (King Narai the Great) to the present day. There was also an exhibition by King Prajadhipok’s Institute, showcasing key political events and the dynamism of Thai-French ties under the reign of His Majesty King Prajadhipok.
In addition, a Lunch Talk was held featuring Dr.Sumet Tantivejkul, Dr.Wissanu Krea-ngam and Dr.Borwornsak Uwanno who discussed the history of Thai-French relations and shared interesting historical anecdotes, such as the Siamese ambassador's first journey to France during the reign of King Narai the Great and the intellectual exchanges between the two nations.
The event reflects the strong and enduring cultural and people-to-people ties between of the two countries. Next year, the two countries will celebrate the 340th anniversary of the first contact between Siam and France.
