On 30 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Special Emergency Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the Aftermath of the Earthquake in Myanmar, chaired by Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, via videoconference.

The Meeting expressed solidarity with Thailand and Myanmar in dealing with the impact of the earthquake on 28 March 2025 and reaffirmed the readiness to support the urgent provision of humanitarian assistance in Myanmar. Thailand, as a close neighbour of Myanmar and active member of ASEAN, is also contributing to relief and recovery efforts and has already been delivering humanitarian assistance to Myanmar.

Furthermore, the Meeting also agreed for Malaysia as the Chair of ASEAN together with the Foreign Minister of Thailand to undertake a humanitarian visit to Myanmar on 5 April 2025 for this purpose.
