On 27 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed and met with Mr. Shi Yugang, Deputy Secretary of Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, during his visit to Thailand between 26 - 29 March 2568.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing Thailand - Yunnan cooperation, including trade in agricultural products, education, tourism, connectivity, green energy and Mekong water resources management through existing bilateral and regional cooperation mechanisms, such as the Thailand - Yunnan Cooperation Joint Working Group. They also expressed readiness to co-organise activities and support people-to-people exchanges to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China this year.
This first visit to Thailand by Mr. Shi was aimed at promoting cooperation and to follow up the outcomes of high-level talks between Thailand and Yunnan, particularly the meeting between the Prime Minister of Thailand and the Governor of Yunnan Province at the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program (GMS) Summit in November 2024. Besides Bangkok, he also visited Songkhla and Chiang Mai provinces during the visit.
