On 13 August 2024, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, chaired the second meeting of the 2024 Coordinating Committee on Issues Related to the United Nations, Other International Organizations and Foreign Organizations, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting considered Thailand’s positions on issues that will be on the agenda at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA79), ranging from peace and security, economics and development, to human rights and humanitarian issues. The meeting also discussed Thailand’s participation at feature events during the UNGA79 High-level Week on 22-30 September 2024, including the Summit of the Future and UNGA79 General Debate under the theme “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.” Thailand will also chair the Foreign Policy & Global Health Initiative Ministerial Meeting and continue its campaign for a seat in the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2025-2027, the elections of which will be held in October 2024 in New York.

UNGA High-level week is an annual forum for global leaders and high-level representatives of all the 193 UN Member States and other organizations to discuss global issues of concern and multilateral cooperation under the UN framework. The Coordinating Committee on Issues Related to the UN, Other International Organizations and Foreign Organizations was established by cabinet decision in 2019. At present, it comprises 46 government agencies, whose tasks are related to the work of the UNand international organizations. The Committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and is responsible for coordinating Thailand’s positions and policy on multilateral affairs in a complementary, comprehensive, and unified manner.
