On 18 June 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Michael Growder, First Assistant Secretary of the East Asia Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, during the latter’s visit to Thailand.

Both sides exchanged views on developments in the East Asian region amid intensifying competition among major powers, against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and challenges to multilateral frameworks. As middle powers, Thailand and Australia reaffirmed their readiness to enhance practical cooperation and constructive engagement in order to strengthen confidence in a rules-based international order, while maintaining global and regional balances of power to promote freedom, peace, security and shared prosperity.
