On 17 June 2026, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, chaired an inter-agency meeting of Thai agencies to discuss ways to promote cooperation with Australia and New Zealand, two middle powers and important partners of Thailand in the South Pacific region.

Representatives from relevant government agencies exchanged views and discussed approaches to integrating their efforts in order to advance cooperation in the areas of politics and security, trade and investment, education, research and innovation, with a view to achieving tangible outcomes and reflecting the strategic partnerships between Thailand and Australia and between Thailand and New Zealand.
