During 5 - 8 August 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, attended the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
The Conference was held under the theme “Driving Progress through Partnerships“ to explore ways in fostering and strengthening partnerships between landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), transit countries and other partners towards the implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries 2024 - 2034. At the General Debate, the Deputy Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to support LLDCs’ development through multilateral as well as regional and sub-regional frameworks such as ESCAP, ASEAN, ACMECS, GMS and BIMSTEC. He also highlighted Thailand’s constructive role as a transit country, as well as Thailand’s commitment to South - South and triangular cooperation, through the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), to build on existing partnerships with 6 LLDCs (Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Lesotho, and Burundi) and develop new partnerships with other interested LLDCs.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary also chaired the Ministerial Meeting on South - South Cooperation session on “Catalyzing South-South and triangular cooperation in science, technology and innovation to spur structural economic transformation and achieve digital leapfrogging in LLDCs,” held in parallel to LLDC3 Plenary Meeting. He also delivered remarks on Thailand’s experience on South - South cooperation with LLDCs at the session on “Best practices and experience sharing in unlocking the potential of South-South and triangular cooperation for sustainable, resilient and transformative development of LLDCs.”
