On 12 January 2567, His Excellency Mr. Walid Abu Ali, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Kingdom of Thailand, with residence in Kuala Lumpur, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to enhance bilateral relations. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the Thai-Palestinian relationship, which has spanned over 12 years, and expressed their readiness to promote Thai-Palestinian relations in potential areas of mutual interest, particularly in tourism and trade promotion.
On this occasion, both sides discussed situation in the Middle East. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Thailand’s commitment to strengthening cooperation for the security and sustainability of the State of Palestine. Moreover, Thailand has consistently provided financial contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) since 1978 and recently provided USD 80,000 in response to UNRWA’s flash appeal following the humanitarian situation in Gaza. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Thai side’s request for assistance from the Palestinian side in securing the release of the remaining Thai hostages, and the Palestinian Ambassador reassured of full support on this matter.
The Kingdom of Thailand and the State of Palestine established diplomatic relations on 1 August 2012. Thailand has assigned the Royal Thai Embassy in Amman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, to be responsible for diplomatic affairs with the State of Palestine, while the Palestinian side has assigned its embassy in Malaysia to have Thailand as one of the countries under its jurisdiction. Thailand officially recognized the State of Palestine on
17 January 2012.
